OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply to the Catering Event Captain/Banquet Captain (Catering & Events Supervisor I) opening within the University's Dining Services Department.

 

  • Fully benefits eligible and pays $22.00-$24.00 per hour
  • Full Time, 12 months out of the year
  • Work directly for the university, not a food service company

 

This position works a flexible schedule based on business needs, including nights and weekends.

Summary of Responsibilities: 

  • The Catering Event Captain/Banquet Captain (Catering & Events Supervisor I) position is responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of catered events at the University of St. Thomas. 

  • Job duties include:

    • Working directly with clients to plan their catering events

    • Coordinating on-campus services for external groups/events

    • Overseeing set-up, service, and cleanup of catered events

    • Overseeing daily operations to include the maintenance of catering serveries and storage areas

    • Supervising and training of the student staff, ordering and inventory

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years front-of-house hospitality experience, preferably in a catering and/or event planning operation to include at least one year of experience supervising employees.
  • Must be ServSafe certified or able to acquire certification with the state of Minnesota within six months of employment. Expenses towards certifications will be covered by the University.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain liquor/alcohol training Tips certification or Serve Safe Alcohol Certificate within 3 months of hire.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience working in a hotel, restaurant, or a college/university dining services, and supervisory experience.

Additional Requirements: 

  • All food service staff are required to follow the Health Department codes and regulations.
  • This is a client service driven position.  Supervisors must enjoy working with clients, staff and students and must be passionate about hospitality.
  • This position also supports Catering & Event Services on the Minneapolis Campus and the individual in the role must be willing to travel between the two campuses as business needs dictate.

 

This position may be designated Emergency Essential. Emergency Essential employees may be expected to remain at work if campus closes during their regular work schedule or to report to work if the campus-closing announcement is made before their regular work schedule begins.
