JOB SUMMARY

Under direction of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, maintain and improve campus grounds to the level of attention determined by the University of St. Thomas management. Work with student grounds employees to complete projects.

• Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
• $21.46 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Maintains turf and lawn areas, mows, trims, and edges using riding mower, push mower, weed whip and edger. Performs the installation of mulch (rock and organic), plants, shrubs, trees, sod and seed. Applies pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers to limited areas as directed.
2. Cleans and provides proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, surface parking lots, parking ramps, paver patios, and storm sewer grates.
3. Maintains exterior grounds features including planters, bike racks, picnic tables and benches, banners, exterior signage, and other outdoor furnishings.
4. Move exterior furniture and miscellaneous equipment, including assisting with exterior events set up and tear down.
5. Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on Grounds equipment and tools.
6. Report items that need repair including exterior lighting, hard surfaces, etc.     
7. Equipment operated snow removal (plow truck, Kubota, Bobcat) for sidewalks, steps, roadways, parking lots and ramps.
8. Position may be required to respond 24/7 to grounds related emergencies and weather-related events. Some weekends, evenings and holidays may be required.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or the equivalent
• Two years of experience in commercial grounds maintenance, landscaping, and equipment operated snow removal.
• Must have a valid Class D state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and experience operating a motor vehicle.
• Must meet the DOT physical qualifications and possess a valid medical card.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience in landscape equipment operation and maintenance practices.
• Knowledge and experience with plant material identification and maintenance.
• Knowledge and experience in landscape irrigation programming, repairs and water conservation practices.
• Hands on working knowledge of proper grounds maintenance procedures, event support and safety procedures.

Abilities: The ability to read, write and follow oral written instructions. Ability to operate various cleaning, landscaping and snow removal equipment including, but not limited to UTV, skid loaders, forklift, mowers (riding and push), snow

blowers, trucks, snowplows, weed whips, backpack blowers, etc. Ability to perform all essential functions listed in the job posting.
