Salary Range: $74,500 to $107,600

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

This position provides leadership and vision for the libraries’ collection management, technical services, and library systems. The Associate Director for Collection Management and Systems supports the mission of the University of St. Thomas and our libraries through the development of current, high-quality, and relevant library collections; managing workflows for acquiring, organizing, and making resources available; and supporting the systems that make internal work and user access possible.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise and lead staff engaged in technical services, including ordering, receiving, processing, description, and management of library resources. Provide guidance to unit staff on e-resource license review when needed.
  • Oversee collection development and management for the university libraries, including advising librarian liaisons on their collection development work.
  • Plan and set goals for the libraries’ technology systems, including the library management system (LMS), the libraries’ web presence, and electronic resources. Supervise and provide support for the systems librarian.
  • Directly manage the libraries’ operating and endowed collections budgets. Work with the Director of University Libraries on budget planning for future fiscal years.
  • Participate as an active member of the libraries’ leadership and management teams.
  • Keep abreast of activities and changes in the profession by attending professional development opportunities and reading related literature.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Five years of experience in an academic or special library with an increasing level of responsibility in collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, serials management, and/or systems
  • Three years of supervisory and department management experience
  • Ability to serve as a bridge between those primarily involved in the daily operation of the resource management and systems functions of an academic library and those outside the department 
  • High level of communication skills, as well as enthusiasm for the future role of the academic library

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing significant acquisitions budgets and operating in enterprise financial systems
  • Background and interest in organization development
  • Experience implementing and managing technology systems in coordination with university information technology staff
  • Familiarity with scripting tools, languages, APIs, and data interchange formats used in retrieving and transforming data
  • Experience with any of the systems currently in use, including: the Ex Libris suite of library management products; Banner, Cognos, and Anaplan for financial planning and management; SpringShare products; Microsoft 36
