OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Facilities Supervisor within the Facilities Management Department. 

 

We anticipate this position is scheduled to work four days, at 10 hours each day, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun.  The preferred hours are 4pm overnights to 2:30am

Compensation Range: $52,920 - $66,533

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Facilities Services, the Facilities Services Supervisor is responsible for the coordination of the work activities and supervision of assigned Building Service Workers and student employees as hired by the Facilities Department. The supervisor establishes daily priorities for the team based on operational needs focusing on cleaning services and event support services and communicates any necessary adjustments. The supervisor ensures that the established standards of cleanliness are maintained through routine quality assessments. The supervisor will provide support to peer supervisors in their absences. The supervisor will share an on-call rotation with other facilities management, approximately one in every seven weeks.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate with the Director of Facilities Services to coordinate cleaning activities and custodial project work. Provide updates (verbal and written reports) as requested. Communicate daily with other supervisors to coordinate shift-cleaning activities, project work, and event set-ups. Detailed daily communication on the completion status is met during shift transitions.

  • Establishes daily priorities based on business needs and available workforce and communicates adjustments to the team. Communicates with Building Service Workers daily (rounding) to determine their performance, quality of work, productivity and supply needs.

  • Establishes daily priorities based on business needs and available workforce and communicates adjustments to the staff and student staff. Coordinate with team of peer supervisors for substitute work force, provide training to staff and student staff, and take appropriate action to support the team of high demands of service for events, service projects, or task support.
  • Responsible for meeting departmental staffing objectives by orienting, training, demonstrating, and coaching. Document and provide progressive, corrective action to employees when needed. Approve/deny Paid Leave Time (PLT) requests and ensures accuracy of payroll timekeeping, approving payroll.

  • Ensure customer service requests and event set-ups are completed in a prompt, accurate and professional manner. Utilize appropriate software documentation for events and work order systems. Assist with major University events such as graduations, move in, holiday parties, President's dinner, alumni weekend, homecoming, athletic event support, etc.

  • Use appropriate documentation and arrange for an appropriate supply of cleaning materials or other necessary items to support the performance of our team. Monitor custodial equipment inventory and evaluate it for proper cleanliness and working conditions. Support training on custodial equipment.

  • Complete documented quality assurance inspection reports on each assigned Building Service Worker supervised twice annually, frequently during onboarding training, and as needed in response to a concern of quality work or productivity.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or the equivalent and three years or more experience supervising a custodial/cleaning team.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred, an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.

  • Experience supervising unionized employees

  • Experience supervising event set up/take down, event cleaning teams preferred. Experience with

    or ability to learn custodial equipment training and operations.

  • Driver’s License
