Salary Range: $54,210 to $69,790

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Media Production Systems Technician in ITS Media Innovation Services Central Engineering owns the full lifecycle of

professional media production infrastructure and engineering tasks associated with university-wide professional video

production infrastructure. This position includes some studio student team member coordination. This position includes some

evening and weekend hours.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, integrate and upgrade professional video production and control room technologies. Understand advanced engineering concepts. Troubleshoot signal across multiple transports, venues / locations, data racks and end point devices. Perform break-fix repairs. Integrate emerging technologies with existing infrastructure. In tandem with adjacent ITS units (networking, AV), integrate and maintain multiple professional video control rooms and systems across multiple high-profile venues (studios, stadiums, video distribution head-ends).
  • Strong working technical knowledge of industry standard media production systems including Ross Carbonite switchers, Allen & Heath SQ series and Yamaha TF audio boards, Ross Dashboard, Xpression graphics, AJA video products, broadcast quality video cameras, SDI, NDI, SMPTE 2110, SRT video transports, video SAN, Dante digital audio, RTS intercoms, streaming broadcast encoders, networking principles, networked devices, topographies, configuration, VLANs, subnets.
  • Alongside the ITS media production systems engineering team, be on-site and available during most events to coordinate basic functions of production systems. Train and support users on how to use the facilities’ production technology systems. Coordinate functions with student, contract and freelance teams. Must be open to a flexible schedule; perform functions during normal business hours, evenings and weekends.
  • Assist all levels of clients and technology skills. Create documentation and knowledge articles for production systems. Maintain existing documentation for media production systems to support ongoing maintenance activities and empower users to self-assist.
  • Remain current with technology trends (work with vendors, read trade journals, attend training, research, etc.), and related technology platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum four years of professional level media production and engineering experience providing technology support to a variety of constituents, preferably in a higher education environment.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Graduate degree in a related discipline

  • Experience with supporting professional video production infrastructure, and complex audiovisual systems

An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
