Salary Range: $65,890 - $84,835 annually

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

This position is responsible for complex financial planning and analysis; development of five-year plan and $300M all funds budget; and development and maintenance of the Anaplan integrated planning system for the Office of Financial Planning & Budgeting (OFPB).  The position will work collaboratively with the Director of OFPB, other OFPB staff and Controller’s Office staff, as well as all individuals involved in the budget process including deans, VPs/AVPs/directors, financial leaders, and other administrative staff.  The position will be responsible for key OFPB analysis including long range planning, forecasting, tuition allocation, indirect cost allocation, fringe benefit budgeting, and quarterly projections. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Budget Development- Development of the annual budget and five-year plan.  Work with departments on budget development. Evaluate budgets to ensure they comply with guidelines.  Lead and participate in budget meetings with deans/VPs/AVPs and financial leadership of each unit.  Ensure all budgets are accurate prior to Banner upload.
  • Anaplan model maintenance and enhancement – Participate in maintenance and enhancement of existing Anaplan models as well as development of new models to grow St. Thomas’s integrated planning ecosystem.  Existing Anaplan models in ecosystem include Data Hub, Indirect Cost Allocation, Long Range Planning, Student Cohort Forecasting, Tuition Allocation, Projection, and Budget Development. 
  • Long-range Planning and Budget Guidelines development – Participate in annual long-range planning process, including maintaining and enhancing the Anaplan LRP model.  Complete analysis required to develop the annual budget guidelines including indirect cost pool build and allocation, tuition forecasting, compensation analysis and data clean-up, and endowment spend planning. 
  • Quarterly Projections – Participate in quarterly projection analysis for internal and board reporting. 
  • Analytic support to Executive Budget Committee, Board of Trustees Audit-Finance Committee, Budget Advisory Committee, F@ST group – complete analysis to support meeting topics, and other related tasks as assigned by Director, OFPB. 
  • Budget Management Activities.  Validate, approve, and execute budget adjustments in Banner; manage accounts payable overdraft approval queue.  Develop and present training to finance staff throughout the university.  Respond to questions and assist department finance staff with problem-solving.  Collaborate with controller’s office, purchasing/payables, and payroll on an ongoing basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.B.A., B.S., B.A.) in accounting, financial management or general business administration
  • Five or more years of experience in complex financial planning/analysis, budgeting and accounting
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel to generate pivot tables, reports, charts and graphs, and modifications of existing spreadsheets and databases
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint including embedded charts and graphs
  • Experience with the University’s accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting systems including Anaplan, Banner, Banner Self-Service and Cognos or similar ERP systems
  • Ability to retrieve, verify, analyze and report financial and other statistical data
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new processes, procedures, coding, and approval queues to maximize the utilization of these systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency with Banner, Banner Self-Service and Cognos
  • Three to five years of hands-on experience with Anaplan, ideally in a higher education setting
  • Model builder experience
