OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Journeyman Electrician position within the department of Facilities Management.

 

We anticipate the schedule for this role to be 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime required.

Hourly Pay Range: $35.80 to $44.28/hr

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Electrical Foreman, the journeyman electrician performs reactive repairs and preventive maintenance to high and low voltage electrical systems, lighting fixtures, equipment, and related electro-mechanical systems. They are also responsible for installation and repair of the fire alarm systems, clock systems and provides support for campus events and projects. 

 

This position is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 110 collective bargaining unit. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintenance, installation and repair of residential and commercial electrical power systems. Electrical power systems consist of high and low voltage distribution connected equipment; including but not limited to, switch gear, transformers, motors and variable speed drives.
  • Installation and repair of residential and commercial light fixtures and lighting system controls, both interior and exterior. Lighting systems consist of high and low voltage distribution and connected equipment; including but not limited to the Nexlight lighting control system, lamps, ballast, exit lights and emergency egress lighting.
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of the building fire alarm systems including smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, strobes and fire alarm panels.
  • Maintenance, repair and testing of emergency generators and associated electrical gear (i.e. transfer switches, invertors, batteries).
  • Work with mechanical maintenance staff to trouble-shoot and repair HVAC equipment including motors, electric and electronic controls for boilers, heating systems, cooling systems, kitchen equipment, athletic equipment and other campus equipment.
  • Perform location surveys of all University owned utilities.
  • Provide electrical support for all University events, activities and projects.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the Facilities Maintenance Department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED

  • Graduated from a two (2) year electrical apprenticeship program; have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the field of commercial electrical construction; have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the field of service electrical work; hold and maintain a Class A Journeyman’s license.

  • Accomplished knowledge of procedures, practices, tools and instruments used in the electrical trade.

  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the electrical trade including lockout/tagout.

  • Knowledge of current electrical building codes.

  • Must have a general knowledge of all building related electrical components including electrical distribution systems, inverters, transfer switches, generators, fire alarm systems, clock systems, large commercial HVAC systems, VFD’s and commercial boiler controls.

  • Must have an acceptable driving record, be able to pass the DOT physical qualifications and obtain a valid medical card.

  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or eligible for legally required exemption such as a medical or religious reason.
  • Must be available to work any shift, including nights and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred experience in trouble-shooting and repairing commercial kitchen equipment and refrigeration systems.
