OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Coordinator I position for the Elevating the Arts initiative in the College of Arts & Sciences.

 

This coordinator I position is a one-year temporary position with the possibility for renewal for a second year (maximum two-year position).  The part-time position is a 41-week position per year, with a start date of August 15th, 2025, and an end date of May 31, 2025 for the first year.  A total of 25 hours of work per week are expected.

Pay Range: $16.80 to $21.00 per hour

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Scene Setters Coordinator’s role is to cultivate a community of students interested in producing and performing in theater at St. Thomas. The Coordinator I is responsible for supporting the coordination and promotion of two student shows per academic year for the Scene Setters, including creating a yearly calendar with a timeline for the productions (e.g., selecting scripts, auditioning, rehearsing, promoting, performing). In addition, this position will coordinate the annual Tommie StorySLAMS and assist with coordinating other campus and theater and performance events as needed. This position requires strong communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.  Excellent organizational and time management skills are needed, along with the ability to multi-task when necessary. Duties include but are not limited to event planning and coordination, marketing, website maintenance, and office and calendar management.  The use of computer applications related to the work, including Microsoft Office; 25Live; Tommie Link, and Salesforce-Summit Events, and familiarity with the theater and principles and practices of acting techniques are required.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Coordinate the production of two student shows, a fall cabaret and spring play, with an emphasis on connecting, training and directing students in the various roles required for a continued student-run theater program.  Promote events at orientation and help facilitate the publicizing of the full student production season to all incoming students. Coordinate dates for performances with the Scene Setters and the Music Department. Select the spring play and purchase the performance rights. Assist with the outreach and selection of student crews .Hold auditions, cast shows, and run rehearsals. Reserve on-campus location for performances and schedule ITS technical assistance for final rehearsals and performances. Acts as the point person for the performances.
  2. Serve on the advisory board of Scene Setters, help organize and lead a new student advisory board for Scene Setters and help promote UST’s arts programs among students.
  3. Assist in the creation of  a yearly calendar with a timeline for producing two student-run shows (e.g., for selecting scripts, auditioning, rehearsing, promoting, performing).
  4. Assist with coordinating other campus theater and performance events, as needed (e.g., in THTR 297 and 298). Coordinate outreach and publicity for student performances in THTR 297 and THTR 298. Assist with room scheduling and ITS technical assistance as needed. Attend performances to connect with student attendees and participants.
  5. Coordinate the annual Tommie StorySLAMs. Assemble a team of students who develop the themes, promote the SLAMs, and run the events. Assist with room scheduling and ITS technical assistance. Connect with faculty to promote the Tommie StorySLAMs events to their classes. Acts as the point person during the event.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or the equivalent
  • One year of administrative work

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA and experience in theater
  • Familiarity with 25Live, Tommie Link, Salesforce-Summit Events
  • Recent or upcoming graduates of the University of St. Thomas are encouraged to apply
