Salary Range: $56,920 to $71,250

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a talented accountant to join our Controller’s Office team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective management and compliance of the university’s grant funds and overall financial reporting. If you are detail-oriented, have a strong understanding of accounting principles, are passionate about making a positive impact through financial stewardship and enjoy collaborating closely with stakeholders across an organization, we encourage you to apply.

 

This position is eligible for hybrid work. The department typically works 2-3 days per week in the office and the remaining days remote however some flexibility may be provided. Remote work must be conducted in the State of Minnesota.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Post-Award Federal, State, and Private Grant Financial Management and Oversight:
    • Create and maintain grant funds and accounts in the university’s ERP
    • Prepare grant related journal entries and handle grants cash management
    • Maintain and organize grant related communication, contracts, amendments, budget adjustments, etc.
    • Maintain access to various federal, state, and private foundation reporting systems and stay up to date with changes and system requirements
    • Collaborate effectively with program managers, grant principal investigators, the office of sponsored programs, and other relevant departments to provide financial guidance and support and facilitate smooth grant management
    • Communicate effectively with grantors to address financial inquiries and ensure alignment with their expectations
  • Compliance and Auditing
    • Work with granting agencies and St. Thomas’ audit firm to prepare for granting agency and external audits as needed
    • Assist with grant compliance requirements such as effort reporting, sub-recipient monitoring, and the annual preparation of the
    • Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards
    • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, grant regulations, and internal policies
    • Maintain comprehensive records of grant-related financial transactions and documentation
    • Manage the Post-Award financial aspects of grant funds including the monitoring of expenditures and financial reporting
    • Work with Assistant Controller to develop and maintain Post-Award policies/procedures as needed to ensure compliance with grant regulations and organizational policies
  • Financial Reporting and Audit preparation/schedules/reconciliation
    • Inter-organization entries and reconciliations
    • Faculty accrued compensation; annual vacation accrual
    • Monitor grant expenditures and ensure adherence to approved budgets
    • Prepare and submit accurate and timely financial reports to grantors, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements
    • Other workpapers and account reviews as assigned
  • Other
    • Manage the Controller’s Office inbox
    • Manage departmental calendar for JE approval rotation
    • Approve journal vouchers and vendors on a rotating basis
    •  Perform special projects as assigned by the Assistant Controller

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of professional experience in Accounting, Finance, and/or sponsored program roles
  • A desire to work in a nonprofit industry

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in grant management or similar roles

An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
