Salary Range: $54,200 to $67.760

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

Collaborate with School of Engineering Lab Manager Team with primary focus on the safety, operations and maintenance of the Civil Engineering Labs and Projects.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Promote and maintain a safe environment in the Lab.  Lead by example and ensure compliance with culture of safety, accountability, and responsibility.
  • Keep Civil Engineering labs maintained and orderly.  Specify, procure, maintain, and calibrate lab equipment.
  • Assist with jointly coordinated lab and project activities across the School of Engineering. 
  • Assist students and faculty with design and set-up of new projects, research tests, and a new teaching lab components.
  • Design, construct/machine/fabricate, and maintain custom equipment and fixtures needed to support lab activities.
  • Coordinate student workers in supporting the Civil Engineering and broader School of Engineering Lab activities.
  • Maintain a high-level of professionalism working in the lab and communicating with students, faculty, and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • An Associates level degree in an engineering, construction, or fabrication related field; Seven years of practical experience may be substituted for the Associate’s degree.
  • Five years of practical experience in any of a range of construction, fabrication, civil engineering technology, industrial or technology service environments
  • Knowledge of safe work practices in a laboratory, job site, or industrial setting
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry/woodworking, welding, plumbing, electrical, machining/fabrication, and a demonstrated ability to assist students in developing these skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and calibrate equipment. 

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in and move about a civil engineering laboratory setting, construction job setting, and an office setting; ability to set up civil engineering testing equipment; ability to transport up to 94 pounds; ability to read construction drawings, printed materials and a computer screen; ability to use a computer; ability to work in a fabrication machine shop; ability to communicate in person, on teleconferences, and over the telephone.
