Salary Range:
Network Engineer: $76,280 to $82,400
Senior Network Engineer: $84,100 to $92,700
The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
JOB SUMMARY
The Network Engineer will contribute to the design, maintenance, and support of the wired and wireless network, voice, and video infrastructure at St. Thomas. This position requires strong problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and communication skills to ensure reliable and secure network operations. The Network Engineer will work closely with Senior Network Engineers and other team members to implement best practices, troubleshoot issues, and support the university’s academic and business needs.
This position will serve as a technical resource on projects for both on-premises and cloud-based networking environments. The position will build and maintain collaborative relationships with St. Thomas academic/business units, external vendors, and other departments within ITS.
The Senior Network Engineer will provide architectural guidance, design, and technology leadership using best practices for the wired and wireless network, voice, and video infrastructure architecture at St. Thomas. The person in this position will demonstrate leadership, problem solving, organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Additional responsibilities include escalated troubleshooting and incident resolution, network engineering and configuration, coordination of upgrades and changes, migrations and installations as the business requires, follow-through on assigned project tasks and ownership of issues in need of resolution.
This position will serve as technical lead on projects, provide direction and leadership in determining technical architecture for both on-premises and cloud-based networking environments, and build and maintain collaborative relationships with St. Thomas academic/business units, external vendors, and other departments within ITS.
Both of these positions are responsible for 24X7 support of systems and services. Some on-call and/or network emergency duties may be required. Both positions work on-site, mainly on the St. Paul campus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF NETWORK ENGINEER/SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER
Contribute to/provide network design and architecture in partnership with stakeholders and ITS Operations groups:
Maintain and assist with/configure the University’s large and diverse network. Participate in/coordinate upgrades and changes, open work tickets, monitor network health.
Be proficient with and follow the ITS Project Management process
Be proficient with and follow ITS procedures for communication updates and guidelines, incident and problem tracking, installation and inventory, and knowledge base.
Remains current on information about higher education and technology industry trends.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
THREE years (Network Engineer) or FIVE years (Senior Network Engineer) of professional experience with infrastructure/enterprise systems and support, including, but not limited to:
· Routing: Static, OSPF, BGP
· Switching: Cisco, HSRP, VLANs, VTP, Spanning-Tree, 802.1x
· Wireless: Cisco, Cisco ISE
· Perimeter: Palo Alto, A10 Thunder CGN
· VPN: Palo Alto GlobalProtect
· IPv4 and IPv6
· Video: Network Device Interface for in-venue and external productions
· Audio - Dante Domain Manager and Dante Audio Routing for settings ranging from classroom to stadium settings
· Microsoft Visio
· Project management
· Change management
An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
