OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Literacy Specialist position within the Dougherty Family College.

This is an 11-month staff position. Salary Range: $50,000 to $63,000

The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

THE OPPORTUNITY 
The University of St. Thomas invites applications for a full-time, 11-month Literacy Specialist position. The Literacy Specialist will direct and provide one-on-one and small group reading and writing tutoring for students in the Dougherty Family College. Given that many of our students are multilingual, the Literacy Specialist will need to have expertise in working with English Language Learners. In addition, the Literacy Specialist will provide embedded classroom reading and writing support with collaboration with DFC faculty. The Literacy Specialist will teach English online retake courses. The Literacy Specialist will conduct ongoing reading and writing labs/workshops in the Scholars Resource Center. Finally, the Literacy Specialist will play a critical role in coordinating the reading and writing assessments of our scholars at DFC.   


In Summary, the Literacy Specialist will design and coordinate culturally responsive academic support for students in academic writing, critical reading, and communication; and collaborate with the Math Specialist in running the Scholars Resource Center, (including supervision of undergraduate and graduate tutors). We seek individuals with a record of success in college-level teaching or working in a literacy and/or writing center, and with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.  

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, writing, literacy, or a closely related discipline
  • TESOL certificate or completion of an ESL/ELL degree program
  • Three years of tutoring or teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in English, writing, literacy, or a closely related discipline preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
