Salary Range: $56,920 to $73,285

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Director is responsible for the co-curricular education of students through the promotion of social, cultural, intellectual and recreational activities. The Assistant Director has primary responsibility for the recognition process of clubs and organizations, their annual registration and event management in addition to the training and development for club leaders and advisors. The Assistant Director supervises a professional staff member in the create[space], a graduate student and Campus Life office undergraduate students as well as overseeing the Frank and Judy Sunberg Leadership Center including collaboration with groups officed in center and oversight of the Inclusive Leadership Collaboratory. The Assistant Director cultivates relationships with students, student clubs and organizations, university departments and external agencies and organizations to foster collaborative engagement that promotes Tommie Advantage learning outcomes, Principles of Good Practice for Student Affairs at the Catholic Colleges and Universities, the mission of the University and enhances student involvement on campus. This position may require some evening and weekend work.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee and coordinate undergraduate student clubs and organizations at the University of St. Thomas
    • Oversees recognition process for all undergraduate clubs and organizations
    • Advises and serves on the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Student Organizations Committee (SOC) that is responsible for approving all new student clubs and organizations
    • Co-advise the USG Finance Committee for student clubs and organizations
    • Gives final approval to all student club and organization campus events registered through Campus Scheduling Services
    • Promote collaboration across the division to develop programming that engages students on campus and in student clubs and organizations
    • Works directly with student groups on following appropriate event planning processes including finding alternative events when potential conflicts with University policy arise
  • Supervise Campus Life staff as assigned. These staff represent the following areas reporting directly to the Assistant Director for Leadership:
    • Management of create-space program including oversight of space, collaborations with faculty, staff and students and student engagement programs and events
    • Second-year student engagement program with focuses on retention, education, leadership, and social justice & inclusion
    • The Tommies Leadership Recognition event
    • Front desk student leaders staffing and resources for Campus Life
    • Program Manager 1 – create_space and SY student engagement
    • Graduate Student Employee for Student Clubs
  • Contribute to the overall goals and success of the Department of Campus Life and Division of Student Affairs
    • Coordinate DSA Leadership Scholarships with Financial Aid Office
    • Oversee Campus Life administration of student org systems Tommie Link and Tommie Link+ including management of club pages, membership rosters, club service hours, group chats, coordination with Banner for incoming and outgoing students each year and represents Campus Life/Student Affairs on university work for Tommie Link
    • Participate in development and implementation of student leaders training for Campus Life student leaders including front desk staff, welcome days leaders, programming interns, etc.
    • Provide program support for Division and University wide strategic initiatives
    • Provide support for implementation and assessment of Tommie Advantage learning outcomes and Principles of Good Practice for Student Affairs at the Catholic Colleges and Universities
    • Represent the Department of Campus Life/Division of Student Affairs at admissions events, new student orientation, Welcome Days, commencement and other assigned events

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five years of professional experience in a higher education environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with university programming, activities and/or leadership development
  • Previous experience with student group advisement and student supervision
  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Empowering Students from Diverse Backgrounds, or a related field
