Hourly Range: $28.73 to $39.66

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Facilities Maintenance, the Carpentry Supervisor directs and supervises the work of Carpenters and Locksmiths. The position is responsible for the coordination and direction of maintenance related to carpentry and locksmith including repair, replacement, remodeling, and renovation. The position is also responsible for supervising the activities of a variety of service contractors such as painting, roofing repairs, garage door maintenance and other miscellaneous equipment maintenance.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • The Carpentry Supervisor position is responsible for the coordination and direction of all building trade maintenance and improvement work related to carpentry, locksmith and painting services, including:
    • Inspect the job and determine what materials are needed and what methods to use for repairs or construction.
    • Schedules projects after consulting with user groups. Informs others when work may affect use of facilities.
    • Assigns staff to projects or work orders, supervises and assists with layouts.
    • Supervises staff to maintain quality control and productivity ratios.
    • Orders all supplies, materials and equipment required to perform the work and ensures that the proper tools are available for the work.
    • Builds a “Culture of Safety” in Facilities Management operations. Ensures safety training is frequent completed in timely manner.
    • As a working supervisor, assists when needed on projects or completing work orders.
    • Coordinates with construction division, electrical supervisor, mechanical supervisor, grounds supervisor, and facilities services supervisors as needed when work impacts other areas.
  • Utilizes the Computerized Maintenance Management System to prioritize, assign and closeout work orders in a timely manner. Communicate status of work orders to customers via CMMS, email or direct conversation. Tracks expenses related to work and reports it in the CMMS.
  • Organizes, trains, leads, schedules and supervises to carry out the tasks with a high level of craftmanship
  • Coordinates and supervises the work of assigned service contractors such as painting, roofing repairs, garage door maintenance and other miscellaneous equipment maintenance.
  • Provides information and recommendations maintenance projects used to develop future funding needs. Develops preventive maintenance plans for carpentry, locksmith and painting scopes of work.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a formal program of technical training for the carpentry trade and formal apprenticeship in the carpentry trade, -OR-

  • Seven years of equivalent on-the-job training in carpentry and construction skills, processes, and procedures to include supervisory experience

  • Must possess a valid State of Minnesota driver’s license with no outstanding violation
