    JOB SUMMARY

    The Director of Institutional Data ensures university leadership has the tools necessary to make data informed decisions by providing strategic and operational leadership in the identification, development, maintenance, and dissemination of useful and timely data analytics. Working in collaboration with university leaders and data managers across campus the Director will lead a team of reporting specialists and analysts to develop dashboards reports, datasets, white papers, and presentations to effectively inform members of the President’s Cabinet and Provost Council. The incumbent will work closely with the Chief Data Officer and members of the President’s Cabinet and Provost Council to answer complex questions requiring advanced analytic techniques such as data mining, predictive modeling, and benchmarking. The incumbent will provide leadership to oversee the development and continued maintenance of a robust data warehouse for use across the operational, tactical, and strategic levels of the university.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1.  Leads and manage a technology-focused team of analysts who assist campus leaders, committees, and policy makers with answering complex questions requiring advanced analytic techniques such as data mining, predictive modeling, and benchmarking. The position will be required to synthesize currently available data and research, develop and analyze institutional data sets, and prepare data visualizations which blend research and data analysis findings in an interactive, consumable, and informative manner, as well as collaborate with University Leadership on the development of KPIs.
     

    2.  Works closely and collaboratively with the Chief Data Officer and all levels of leadership at the institution to assess information needs and develop institutional, departmental, and individual operational and strategic decision support tools.  Ensures university leadership has direct access to useful and informative information which assists them in their operational and strategic initiatives.
     

    3.  Oversee the development of a comprehensive reporting system designed to create consistency in information usage at the university. Work closely with the Chief Data Officer to develop a university data warehouse that is accessible, scalable, and relevant to meeting the needs of the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the institution

     

    4.  Responsible for project development, delegation and personnel including; personnel supervision and evaluation; budget planning and administration; and project prioritization and focus. Actively participate on data stewards and governance committee.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Seven years of professional experience with data collection, organization, and dissemination
    • Experience to include leading staff, committees, and peers in order to successfully accomplish projects requiring interdepartmental cooperation 

    Preferred Qualifications

    • M.A., M.S., or MBA. 
    • Academic background or degree in Education, Social Sciences, Data Sciences or related field
    • Broad understanding of data analytics, data warehouse development and management
    • Experience working across all functional units of a university
    • Experience organizing and presenting information to groups such as the Board of Trustees, Senior Staff, President’s Cabinet, and University Committees
