    JOB SUMMARY

    The Learning Spaces Innovation Specialist designs and builds 21st Century teaching and learning spaces in order to bring the institution to the forefront of learning space technology.  This position will engage faculty and staff to participate in the development of new classroom designs and layouts, implement and manage major strategic technology roll-outs, and manage the services, teams, and contracts connected with implementing and maintaining modern learning spaces. The Learning Spaces Innovation Specialist manages external vendor contracts and a student worker pool in addition to coordinating with the ITS Rapid Response Team to provide excellent support and well maintained classrooms.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Design and Innovate Learning Spaces on Campus

    • Deliver regular classroom design updates and improvements on a schedule to be determined by position supervisor
    • Develop, iterate and publicize model classroom standards
    • Follow industry trends in higher education learning spaces and also wider industry trends in collaborative spaces
    • Collaborate with faculty and develop strong partnerships across the university to provide intuitively designed classrooms that will enhance teaching and learning
    • Develop strong partnerships with campus stakeholders, support units and vendors.

     

    Implement Designs and Standards across the institution

    • Manage vendor contract and RFP process
    • Manage vendor interaction on maintenance, implementations, and upgrades
    • Lead the specification, acquisition, and implementation of hardware and control systems and specify infrastructure requirements for new builds and upgrades.
    • Understand event requirements and design, build, or upgrade event spaces to meet client and support needs.

     

    Support and Manage Campus AV Issues/Training

    • Ensure that classroom technology is appropriately maintained and replaced through a preventative maintenance and life-cycle replacement schedule.
    • Establish systems of proactive monitoring to promote stability and address outages and maintenance.
    • Coordinate investigation and resolution of classroom and event technology issues. 
    • Create and deliver training on new classroom AV systems.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
    • Five years of broad experience in audio visual technology support and project management
    • Previous experience with classroom, learning environment and event technology
    • Thorough knowledge of multimedia systems, including multimedia and video equipment installation and maintenance
    • Experience working with outside vendors and contractors

    An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
