    JOB SUMMARY

    The child development teacher is responsible for all aspects of the daily classroom operation including designing and

    maintaining the classroom environment, planning and executing the weekly curriculum plan, tracking the developmental

    progress of individual children, supervision of some student workers and volunteers and parent communication. The child

    development teacher also has a leadership role in the Center and in the Division of Student Affairs.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Plan and execute a weekly curriculum plan that promotes cognitive, cultural, emotional, social,
    • physical and intellectual growth of children in group.
    • Design and maintain the classroom environment
    • Track the developmental progress of individual children and assist in securing specialized services
    • as needed.
    • Assist children with routine daily tasks as appropriate to their developmental level. These tasks
    • may include diapering, toileting, dressing, feeding.
    • Maintain regular written and verbal communication with parents.
    • Maintain records as required by the Center and by law.
    • In the absence of the lead teacher, serve as a classroom supervisor and mentor to student employees
    • and volunteers.
    • Serve as a member of the professional staff team in the Division of Student Affairs.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must have completed a sufficient number of accredited courses to be qualified as a teacher according to the State of Minnesota’s Department of Human Services. 
    • Knowledge of principles and practices for providing developmentally focused early childhood education; assessment of typical child development and behavioral and affective disorders
    • The ability to physically play with children, which may include the following: bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, running, squatting, and sitting on the floor or ground.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Two years of experience working full-time as an assistant teacher.
