The Senior Investment Analyst position will be a key position within the University of St. Thomas’ three-person Treasury Office focused primarily on supporting the investment activities of the endowment fund.  This position will be a generalist position with responsibilities across both liquid and illiquid strategies employed within the endowment.  Primary responsibilities include managing existing investment relationships across all asset classes, coordinating with the University’s investment consultant on manager due diligence, sourcing of new investment managers and ideas, portfolio strategy and research efforts.

  • Manage existing investment relationships across all asset classes including reviewing materials on a quarterly basis, participating in periodic update calls and attending in-person meetings and/or annual meetings.
  • Lead research projects on various asset classes, investment strategies and/or thematic investment opportunities.
  • Manage the futures overlay positions of the endowment portfolio.
  • Cultivate networks and relationships across the industry to improve investment manager sourcing and stay informed of key trends and best practices.
  • Work with investment consultant on new manager due diligence.
  • Manage external vendor relationships including the university’s custodial bank, overlay manager and various databases.
  • Assist in the preparation of Investment Committee materials along with the university’s CIO and investment consultant.
  • Provide operational backup for the endowment including but not limited to monthly performance reporting using the software Backstop, and ensuring capital calls and distributions are processed.
  • Provide treasury management backup including daily cash reconciliation, money market transfers and processing of ACH and wire transfers.
  • Assist in the management of the university’s long-term debt and annual debt compliance.
  • The Senior Investment Analyst position reports to the Chief Treasury and Investment Officer and works collaboratively with individuals in accounting and development.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics or a related discipline
  • Five (5) years investment experience preferably with an endowment, foundation or pension plan. Consideration will also be given to candidates who have experience with firms involved in investment research, consulting and/or asset allocation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A CFA is strongly desired. Other degrees and/or certifications viewed favorably include CAIA, FRM, MBA and/or other advanced degree in finance or related disciplines.
  • Experience with Backstop

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate and persuasively state and support a thesis within a collaborative culture.
  • Desire for a less-structured, generalist role.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and expertise in data and information management systems and processes, preferably with Backstop or a similar risk and performance management system.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and abroad, approximately 10-15%.
