Overview

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Sr. Admissions Counselor - Transfer position within the Admissions Department.

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Senior Transfer Admissions Counselor plays a vital role in recruiting, building relationships with and enrolling the necessary quantity and quality of transfer students to meet the enrollment goals of the university. The Senior Transfer Admissions Counselor is the first point of contact for students and families, manages a recruitment territory and actively analyzes data, developing marketing strategies and making admissions decisions designed to achieve the transfer goals of the institution. S/he communicates with prospective students and their families about credit transfer and the application process, academic programs, extracurricular opportunities, housing, and costs/financial aid. The Senior Transfer Admissions Counselor uses ever-changing technology, including the Salesforce CRM and Banner, to communicate and track interactions with students.

 

Additionally, the Senior Transfer Admissions Counselor has responsibility for an area of strategic priority, collaborating with units across campus and leading the enrollment team to achieve the university goals regarding an assigned priority.

 

Night, weekend work, and travel are requirements of this position.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Transfer Student Recruitment: Meet with students and parents on and off campus to counsel and present information regarding the St. Thomas transfer experience. Master and effectively communicate to students the transfer process and university information through a variety of channels and provide quality customer service to all impacted audiences. Build relationships with diverse populations and serve as the first point of contact with a variety of constituencies. Work with Veteran students to guide them on Veteran’s transfer policies and Veteran’s benefits.

 

Transfer Admission Application and Credit Transfer Review: Assist in the evaluation of transfer applicant’s academics, any scholarships or grants extended to admitted transfer students. Prepare unofficial evaluations of how students’ courses will transfer and present that information during personal appointments, telephone calls, or electronic mail. Explain official degree evaluations to admitted students. Review Dean’s Form and collaborate with Dean of Students Office when needed for guidance. Make suggestions about future courses if helping students create transfer plans. Collect course syllabi for official review if necessary and respond to the students when official course evaluations are made. Work closely with counseling staff at two year schools, including the Dougherty Family College, to communicate transferability to St. Thomas, create guaranteed admission programs and to make suggestions on how to advise their students.

 

Territory Management and Data Analysis: Analyze recruitment data with the university CRM and enterprise system to strategize and manage a recruitment territory and to determine travel and communication plans. Implement effective technological communication and measure its success. Develop and implement new strategies, communication plans, and events to generate additional interest in St. Thomas, to help students complete applications, and enroll at UST. 

 

Strategic Priority/Program Responsibilities: Serve as a leader for the recruitment efforts of an assigned strategic priority or special program. Strategize ways to influence recruitment, communicate and collaborate with other units across campus, represent and lead the enrollment team to achieve the university goals regarding an assigned priority.

 

Event Planning and Implementation: Oversee the planning of various events, both on and off campus, for prospective transfer students, parents and other admissions guests. Actively participate in and help execute several large events catered towards first year students. Work with campus vendors, faculty, current students and other community members to provide a campus visit experience that positively influences enrollment yield objectives and revenue at the University of St. Thomas. Work with student services coordinators and student club leadership to coordinate major-specific group visits, which meet directly with St. Thomas department faculty.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Minimum qualifications: BA/BS and two (2) years of experience in an academic setting, preferably in Admissions.

 

Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by employment start date. Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required. Successful completion of a background check and driving record check after hire is required.

 

Preferred qualifications: experience as a tour guide, student ambassador, intern, or related higher education experience, etc.; related experience in marketing, sales, event planning, sales, territory management, relationship building, and customer service.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:  computer applications related to the work; business arithmetic; university academic units and programs; student recruitment and retention issues; university admissions policies, standards and procedures; use of a number of hardware and software applications and cutting edge e-media; standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment; record keeping principles and practices; correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation; techniques for dealing with the public, in person and over the telephone.

 

Skill in:  Interpreting, applying and explaining applicable laws, codes and regulations; contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities; ability to build relationships with a variety of constituencies; develop and deliver presentations; independently perform professional analytical and programmatic work in the area(s) to which assigned; carrying assigned analytical project through, from data gathering to completion; using initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines; using tact, discretion and prudence in dealing with those contacted in the course of the work; ability to build relationships with a variety of constituencies, ability and willingness to work nights and weekends; ability to develop and deliver presentations to varied audiences both on and off campus; ability to manage a very large caseload and still build personal relationships; dealing successfully with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

 

Physical requirements: Ability to work in and move about an office setting; ability to use a computer and other office equipment; ability to transport boxes of materials weighing up to 30 lbs; ability to stand for long periods of time; ability to commute to off-site locations for meetings; ability to read printed materials and a computer screen; ability to communicate in person and over the telephone.  The University provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities who require and request accommodations in order to perform the essential functions of their jobs.
